The use of gas in welding has been used for a very long time and begins about the beginning of the 19th century, when a mixture of oxygen and hydrogen was first made, and in the future it was also used to obtain a flame. In the old days, parts of jewelry were connected in this way. In the future, with the development of chemistry and the emergence of gas gas, in mixtures for welding they began to use it. Acetylene gas, which is obtained by mixing calcium carbide with water. Only acetylene can give when combustion a temperature of about 2200 C, and a mixture of oxygen can be achieved over 3000 C. This made acetylene with gas, which is ideal for welding and cutting metals, its use in appropriate qualification is allowed by the industrial safety of large construction objects.
Equipment for such welding is portically and is less expensive and more universal than electric welding. With the help of the correct approach to the use of the ligament of acetylene-acid, almost any metal can be connected by a weld, heated or cut. Equipment for oxygen-acetylene welding can be divided into functional parts of cylinders, regulators, hoses, etc.
Oxygen and acetylene cylinders are used to store the mentioned gases or their mixtures. In these steel cylinders, gas is stored under pressure. The actual volume and size of the cylinders depends on the volume of the gas, which is inside. Internal fire safety prescribes storage of these cylinders in specially designated places, far from the accumulation of people and elevated temperatures.
The cylinders on a regular basis are tested, the stamp with the date of the last test is placed in the upper part. Cylinders should always be in an upright position, during operation and storage. The balloon valve should be covered with a lid, always, when there is no need to supply gas.
Oxygen cylinders are made of steel and, as a rule, are painted in green. Their volume, usually starts from 0, 56 m3 to 8, 5 m3 and contain compressed oxygen under pressure from above 15 MPa. All cylinders have valves and are equipped with a screw steel cover that protects the cylinder valve when the cylinder is not used.
If oxygen comes into contact with oil or lubrication, it is ignited. You should never use oil or fat when working with oxygen cylinders, valves or regulators. Before starting work, make sure that hands and gloves are free from oil and lubrication. The batch of cylinders should be accompanied by a guide for use, which includes technical requirements, security passport, storage conditions. Before installing the regulator, you need to check the valve for the lack of dirt. Slightly open the valve of the cylinder until the regulator is installed, and then you can open it in full. This allows you to reduce the risk of decompression, which is caused by the supply of gas under high pressure in the regulator, which can cause its failure.
